Why speech and feeding therapy?

Speech therapy may be helpful for many reasons, including if your child:

  • is a late talker

  • is non-speaking, minimally, or inconsistently speaking, whether or not they currently use an AAC (alternative and augmentative communication) device

  • has a diagnosis such as autism spectrum disorder or has difficulty with social interactions

  • is difficult for others to understand or has trouble saying certain sounds

  • has difficulty understanding what others are saying, such as difficulty completing directions

Feeding therapy may be helpful if your child:

  • has a limited number, type, or texture of foods they will eat

  • struggles to participate with meal times

  • has difficulty chewing

  • has oral aversions or is orally defensive

Where are you located?

I am a mobile provider and can provide speech therapy in your home or your child’s daycare. For many children, providing services in the natural environment allows the child to be more comfortable and encourages carryover.

What can I expect?

Every child is unique, so every treatment plan is unique, as well. First, we will schedule a screening to discuss your concerns for your child and see if you think I will be a good fit for your family. A full evaluation may be recommended to obtain the full picture of what is going on and establish a treatment plan. If you have received an evaluation in the past year, we may be able to base therapy off that evaluation. Therapy may be recommended once or twice per week along with a home program to maximize carrying over new skills at home. I will always take your family’s specific needs and requests into consideration when making any recommendations.

Why New Mercies?

I have 10 years of experience working with children and their families in clinics and in homes. I specialize in working with ages birth-3, autism, AAC, childhood apraxia of speech, and other speech disorders. I am neurodiversity affirming and use a relationship-based, child-led approach to therapy.
